Altrenative ways for promoter extraction
Promoter extractor is easy to install, fast and secure. But genome information is public and if you want not to spend money on it you could use one of the following absolutely cost free ways:
1. Extract a list of Genbank accession numbers from you array and extract promoters using PromoSer from zlab.
2. Extract promoters from ensemble using emsembl bioperl modules. Install bioperl from www.bioperl.org. Install ensembl bioperl modules from www.emsembl.org . Then you can either extract promoters from public ensemble database or download and install ensembl database locally.
3. If you need not so many promoters you can download them one by one from ensembl or ncbi. For ensembl steps are: a) find your gene in emsembl using ensembl search engine b) determine positions and chromosome of promoter c) get sequence by positions and chromosome.
